I've been reading a lot about Narcoleptics having difficulty with weight gain and binge eating.
I have episodes on and off that last for about a week where I am so so so hungry. It's not an emotional hunger. It is an insatiable gnawing hungry feeling in my stomach that no matter how much I eat it doesn't go away. Does anyone else experience that?
I think some of the medication that I take because of Narcolepsy has messed up my weight for the worst. I have to stop eating sometimes even though I could eat alot more. Maybe the above link will help you at least understand that plenty of Narcoleptic s deal with the same issue.
When I'm tired I eat or crave sweets because food can give me energy if I'm actually hungry. I think my brain gets tricked. It doesn't help to eat more if tired because then I fall asleep afterward. If a person has insomnia it would really be a struggle.
When I am done eating the feeling of sleep is almost automatic. This constant cycle of eat and sleep will defiantly cause weight gain. I have to be careful where I am once i'm done eating so I can keep myself awake.
"Its my understanding that medication like provigil and nuvigil can act as a antidepressant/weight loss pill "
Provigil and nuvigil is FDA approved for sleep disorders so far. I'd say there may be side effects or effects for some people like weight loss or improved mood, but lots of studies need to be done to show that the effect is better than placebo, as they say. I got a depression side effect from Provigil. Everyone is different, but you can ask your doctor about any medicine you are taking or may want to try for your condition. My doctors have always been very strict.
